Kathmandu Day Tours

Kathmandu is Nepal’s capital and largest city situated in the Kathmandu Valley.  UNESCO World Heritage Sites, ancient temples, winding narrow streets, magnificent wood carvings and the occasional monkey are just some of the sights that greet visitors.

Our professional tour guides will escort you around this wondrous city.  Listed below are half and full day tours available.

Half Day Tours

Kathmandu Durbar Square - UNESCO World Heritage Site

Our Guide will meet you at your hotel after breakfast.  Depending on your location, it may be possible to walk from your hotel to the Durbar Square, otherwise we will organise transport from your hotel.

Kathmandu Durbar Square is one of three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley, Patan and Bhuktapur being the others and they are all UNESCO World Heritage Sites.  Durbar Square is a complex of palaces, courtyards and temples, built between the 12th and 18th centuries and was the seat of the ancient Malla Kings of Kathmandu and comprises 3 distinct temple squares.  Our experienced guide will explain the significance of these temples.

No tour is complete without a visit to a tea house, this will be arranged by your guide.  After your tour, our guide will take you back to your hotel, or you may wish to explore this fascinating area by yourself or head towards the bustle of Thamel.

Our guide and driver will meet you at your hotel for the short journey to Patan through Kathmandu’s erratic traffic – this can be an experience in itself.

Patan Durbar Square is an excellent example of Newari architecture and was the palace of the former Malla royal families.  The Dubar Square consists of courtyards, temples and stuppas.  A museum with magnificent artefacts is within the square.  Lunch will be provided at one of the many restaurants that overlook the square.  Time for shopping and those extra photos can be had before our guide and driver will take you back to your hotel.

Swayambhunath Stupa - The Monkey Temple  UNESC World Heritage Site

From the top of a hill, this huge stupa dominates the Kathmandu skyline.  Swayambhunath is shared by both Hindus and Buddhists and each morning before dawn pilgrims climb the 365 steps to the top. The best time to see Swayambhunath and experience this spirituality is before dawn and our guide and driver will meet you at your hotel and drive you through the quiet streets of Kathmandu to the base of the Stupa.  The option of walking up the 365 steps or being driven closer to the top will be given.

After the morning rituals are completed our guide will escort you around this vast complex.  You may wish to return to your hotel for a late breakfast, or our guide can suggest suitable venues.

Bouddhanath Stupa

Bouddhanath Stupa is the centre of Buddhism in Nepal.  The massive stupa attracts pilgrims and locals who chant mantras as they walk around this shrine.

Our guide and driver will collect you from your hotel and drive to Bouddhanath.  This area of Kathmandu has a distinctive Tibetan feel about it.  Your guide will explain the significance of Bouddha and take you into the back streets and alleyways.  One of the best ways to appreciate this special place is atop one of the many restaurants and tea houses, from there you can look down on the spiritual pilgrimage the monks, nuns and locals are participating in.

Your guide will give you time to explore the many shops selling malla beads, prayer flags, singing bowls and thankas.
